What are the Disadvantages of Paraffin? Paraffin candles contain eleven known carcinogenic compounds and produce problematic soot emissions. Paraffin is made from petroleum and emits petro-soot which is as harmful as tobacco smoke and contains many of the same compounds given off from burning diesel fuel. Paraffin is not biodegradable.
